St. Catherine’s Church was founded as a monastery church between 1206 and 1212. An impressive late-Gothic hall church, where visitors can still view a winged altar from the Cranach workshop (“The Risen Christ” by Peter Breuer) and a sandstone pulpit by Paul Speck. Like St. Mary’s Cathedral in Zwickau, St. Catherine’s Church was also a center of activity for Thomas Müntzer around 1520–21.
